Beverly Anne Kirn


Kennebunk – Beverly Anne Kirn, 63, of Greenwich Way, Kennebunk, and Bonita Springs, Fla., died Thursday, April 6, at Southern Maine Medical Center surrounded by her loving family after a battle with lung cancer.

She was born in Worcester, Mass. on Jan. 11, 1943, the daughter of Michael Thomas and Josephine Anne (Days) DiTerlizzi.

She graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1960, attended Worcester Junior College and graduated from Carnegie Institute of Medical Technology.

She worked as an administrative assistant at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston from 1961 to 1966.

She married E. Bruce Kirn, O.D. on Aug. 7, 1965. They moved to Rumford in 1966, where she helped him open his optometric practice. Besides being a homemaker, she was owner of the Rumford Drive-In Theater from 1968 to 1984. She worked tirelessly in many Rumford civic and charitable organizations.

Most notably, she was a member of the Rumford Hospital Auxiliary for 17 years, where she served as its president and chairman of the Rumford Hospital Fair. She was recognized in 1996 for serving as founding trustee of Rumford Community Home, and as a community director on the hospital’s parent corporation, Rumford Consolidated Healthservices, Corporation.

She was a member of the Rumford Book Club, the Searchlight Club, and was a proud founding member of the Rumford “Blabbies Bridge Club”.

In 1997, she and her husband moved to Bonita Springs, Fla. She was a member of the Bonita Bay Golf Club. She worked as a sales associate at the Mole Hole in Naples, Fla., retiring in May 2005.

She and her husband celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this August.

She will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, and witty sense of humor. Her interests were varied from reading, gardening, decorating, cooking and entertaining to beach-combing, but most memorable will be her love and devotion to her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of Kennebunk and Bonita Springs, Fla.; her son, Dr. W. Todd Kirn and his wife, Jennifer, of Kennebunk; her daughter, Heidi Kirn McMahon and her husband, Neil, of Teaneck, N.J.; her mother of Shrewsbury, Mass; four grandchildren, Lily Kirn McMahon, Charles Kirn McMahon, Virginia Reese Kirn and Gavin William Kirn; a sister-in-law, Katharine Kirn Russell, and a brother-in-law, Paul Russell, of Wellesley, Mass; and a niece, Lindsay Russell Moseley and her husband, James, of Arlington, Mass.
