Big snow predicted for northern New England

JAY, Vt. (AP) — A late season snow storm could give an extra breath of life to two ski areas in Vermont and Maine.

The Jay Peak ski resort in northern Vermont is expecting anywhere up to 25 inches of snow by Wednesday afternoon.

Jay Peak Supervisor Gage O’Donnell says the resort had planned to be open this Saturday and Sunday, but will move that up to Thursday. At mid-morning Tuesday, there was already a new inch of snow on the ground.

And the Sugarloaf ski area in Maine is staying open until Sunday.

The National Weather Service says that by the time the storm ends, up to a foot of heavy wet snow is possible across portions of the White Mountains in New Hampshire and the Green Mountains in Vermont.
