A bit of history

This is in response to the letter from Sharon L. Hunt (April 22).

“One Nation, Under God,” was adopted in 1954, and the nation’s official motto “In God we Trust,” became official two years later. Neither predates “who we are” as a nation when the topic of immigration is concerned.

The “merry” from “Merry Christmas” didn’t see heavy use until the 1840s and was used along with similar greetings. Also, if the pastime of a rabbit bringing painted eggs for Jesus’ return is not a direct result of the “melting pot,” then what is?

Finally, for those passionate about this nation’s religious roots, consider Leviticus 19:33-34
