ORONO —The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team, fresh off a surprising run to the Hockey East final this season, will play a pair of home games against North Dakota and another pair, on the road, against Michigan State as part of their 2010-11 season schedule, which they released Wednesday.
The Black Bears will also return to the Florida College Classic next season, where they will square off against Frozen Four participant Miami of Ohio, with the winner to face either Cornell or St. Cloud State.
“We’re very excited to announce our 2010–2011 schedule,” Maine coach Tim Whitehead said in a news release. “We have some great non-conference opponents, along with the always-challenging Hockey East schedule.”
That schedule will include defending national champion Boston College, which Maine will face three times.
The Black Bears’ exhibition scedule includes Acadia University of Canada, and a January 2 game at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland against the Under-18 National Development team.
They have 13 games scheduled next season against seven teams that made the 2010 NCAA tourney.
The Black Bears will return nearly all of its top-end talent this season, with 11 of the top 12 Black Bears in points set to return to campus in the fall, including Hobey Baker finalist Gustav Nyquist, who led the country in points last season with 61.
