Blue Elephant club reopens after soaking

LEWISTON – One night after closing due to burst pipes, the Blue Elephant Lounge reopened Saturday night.

“I can’t believe it’s been less than 24 hours,” bartender Sunni Bush said. “The place looks great.”

The pipe at the Park Street club burst just before midnight Friday, spraying water on patrons and setting off fire alarms.

Nobody was hurt, but a handful of patrons scurried out of the club and into the frigid night.

Bush praised firefighters for helping perform much of the cleanup, using vacuums to suck up the water.

The cleaning continued Saturday.

“We had a steady stream of people through here, electricians and so on,” Bush said.

The club reopened at 8 p.m., its usual time.

“You can’t tell anything ever happened,” Bush said.
