BMVs’ Titles Division might be helpful

Dear Sun Spots: Do any of your readers know what to do when a car needs to be sold and the joint owner has moved to another state?

The Internet has no information on this person. I don’t know if the person is living or deceased. Thank you so much for your help. I always read your column. – No Name, No Town.

Answer:
Many thanks to Don Cookson with the communications division for the Secretary of State’s Office, who was a great help. He recommends you contact the Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ Titles Divison, 624-9000, Ext: 52138.

Cookson notes that the only way to get a transfer of ownership is by having the other party sign off on the vehicle. Cookson says both names have equal legal standing. However, according to the titles division, situations such as yours are not uncommon. Sun Spots would urge you to call the division to discuss your individual situation.

According to the BMV’s Web site, www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/registration/titles.htm, a vehicle is required to have a title in the state of Maine if it is 15 years old or newer. Otherwise, it is exempt.

Dear Sun Spots: I was wondering if Tom Caron, the guy who announces for The Red Sox on NESN and was a Lewiston native, played baseball in his younger years and for what team? Also, what is his age? – M.S., Wilton.

Answer:
Sports reporter Kevin Mills reports that Caron played soccer at Lewiston High School during his high school years. In fact, Mills is proud to note (and is sure Caron will remain thrilled) that Caron retains the Lewiston High School record for goals against average. His record in 1981 was .17. Mills says he checks this annually so he can update Caron on his retention of the record.
