COLUMBUS, Ga. — Bonnie Jean Blackwood Culberson, 60, of Fort Mitchell, Ala. passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, at Gentiva Hospice at Franciscan Woods in Columbus, Ga.
She was born on May 26, 1957, in Lewiston to George D. Blackwood and the late Constance E. (Maxim) Blackwood. She attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1975. Bonnie proudly served our country for 16 years in the U.S. Navy. She served as general manager at Chick-fil-A and was also a teller at MEA Federal Credit Union in Columbus, Ga.
Bonnie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her visits to Maine, lighthouses and helping those in need. Bonnie never met a stranger. She was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Columbus, where she taught CCD and contributed immensely to help the homeless.
Bonnie is survived by her father, George D. Blackwood of Harpswell; her loving and devoted husband, Jack J. Culberson of Fort Mitchell, Ala.; sons, Corey Lee Culberson and fiancé Stephanie Bowers, of Phenix City, Ala., and Christopher John Culberson and fiancé Ashley Williamson, of Fort Mitchell, Ala.; sisters, Lynne B. Adams and husband William R., of Greene, Debra A. Blackwood and partner Nancy Gann, of San Antonio, TX, and Cindy Blackwood of Lewiston; brother, James A. Blackwood and wife Sandra, of Fort Myers, Fla.; grandchildren, Brayden and Avery Culberson, one aunt, Lida Muench of Spanish Fort, Ala.; several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many caring friends.
Other than her mother, Constance M. Blackwood, she was predeceased by her brother, William G. Blackwood; maternal and paternal grandparents; several aunts and uncles; and her mother-in-law, Madeleine E. Culberson.
