LEWISTON — The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program series at USM/Lewiston-Auburn College on Friday, Nov. 12, will feature Dorothy Bowyer’s discussion of the book “Happy Life Blues,” relating the experiences of the Maddocks family during their imprisonment in the Philippines by the invading Japanese during World War II.
A true story of a missionary with strong ties to Auburn, the account was written by Cecily Mattocks Marshall, a second cousin of presenter Bowyer who will narrate the family’s life through their survival in the mountains as well as the three years in the Santo Tomas Prison.
Bowyer has been a volunteer at Senior College for eight years and currently is a member of the communications committee.
Senior College presents the monthly noon luncheon in the Function Room 170 at USM LAC. The cost, which includes lunch, is $7 with advance reservation or $8 at the door, opening at 11:30 a.m.
Reservations must be made no later than noon Thursday, Nov. 11, by phone at 753-6510. Any late callers will be considered as “at the door.”
