HALLOWELL — Messalonskee won the Southern Conference high school bowling championship at Sparetime Recreation by beating Lewiston, 3-1.
The Eagles entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed behind the Southern Maine Co-Op team. In the quarterfinals, Messalonskee beat No. 7 seed Rangeley 3-0 in the best-of-five matches with games of 199, 144 and 232. The Eagles again won 3-0 in the semifinals over Winslow High School.
In the finals, Lewiston took game one from the Eagles 205-172 before Messalonskee come back with three consecutive wins of 208-146, 199-167 and 212-167 to take the title.
Lewiston came in as the No. 4 seed and defeated Waterville 3-0 and knocked off No. 1 Southern Maine 3-0 to reach the final.
Messalonskee, Lewiston, Southern Maine, and Winslow all qualified for the eight-team state tournament March 3 at Yankee Lanes in Portland.
Teams from Spruce Mountain, Western Maine Co-Op, Lawrence and Cony also competed in the conference championship.
