Boys’ high school basketball: Lewiston routs Mt. Ararat

LEWISTON — With every senior scoring points on Senior Night, Lewiston used a balanced attack to roll over Mt. Ararat 80-36 as their 2012 campaign draws to a close.

Donne Agossou led the Blue Devils (14-3) with 12 points, while Erik Wilson and Cody Mousseau each added 11.

The Eagles (2-15) were paced by Tyler Charron with a solid 16-point effort, their only player in double figures.

Lewiston built a 10-point lead in the first half and used a 26-11 third-quarter run to pull away.

Leavitt 61, Morse 40

BATH — Sophomore guard Zac Goulette led a balanced attack with 13 points as Leavitt buzzed Morse 61-40 in KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Hornets (14-3) spread out the offensive duties quite well. Tyler Walton collected 12 assists to go along with his six points. Jordan Hersom hauled down 10 rebounds to go along with his eight points. And, Tim Dow recorded three three-pointers in the first half.

Senior guard Ted Cole recorded a game-high 19 points on six field goals, including five from three-point range, and a pair of free throws for the Shipbuilders (4-13). Matt Munster chipped in with 10 points for Morse in the losing effort.

EL 55, Oxford Hills 42

AUBURN — Senior forward Quin Leary notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds as Edward Little rebuked Oxford Hills 55-42 in KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Red Eddies (12-5) built a solid 30-18 lead in the first half on excellent use of the full court pressure. Senior guard Omar Haji-Hersi and junior guard Sean Ford contributed 11 points each for Edward Little.

The Vikings (5-12) battled tough in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to 10 points at one point. Senior center Josh MacDonald posted a team-leading 10 points on five field goals for Oxford Hills in the losing effort.

Buckfield 58, Richmond 39

BUCKFIELD — Alan Hedrick scored 14 points in the first quarter to get Buckfield off to a quick start as the Bucks ripped Richmond 58-39 in a Class D boys’ basketball game.

Hedrick’s 14 points allowed Buckfield (7-11) to leap out to a 26-2 advantage after the first quarter.

Richmond fought back to narrow the gap to 36-26 at halftime, but the Bobcats could get no closer.

Hedrick finished with a game-high 21 points, while Austin Dooley added 18 points and Cody Barker had 10 points.

Ben Carver and Brian Snedeker led Ricvhmond (4-13) with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Mt. Blue 73, Messalonskee 57

FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue used a 26-17 run in the second frame to pull away from Messalonskee and raced away to post a 73-57 win in a KVAC boys’ basketball matchup Tuesday.

Cam Sennick led the Cougars (13-4) with 24 points and 22 rebounds. Nick Hilton chipped in with 21 points, while Eric Berry also contributed with 15 points, eight steals and five assists.

The Eagles (2-15) were paced by Elijah Steele and Gage Landry with 11 points apiece, while Ryan Erskine chipped in with 10.

Poland 66, Freeport 58

POLAND — Senior forward Ricky Byrant and Drew Peterson recorded 15 points each in a balanced attack as Poland jostled Freeport 66-58 in WMC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Knights (10-7) began the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run to catapult themselves to the winner’s circle.

Senior forward Mitch Loeman tossed 10 baskets and five from the charity stripe to lead all scorers with 25 points for the Falcons (3-14) in the losing effort.

Maranacook 55, Oak Hill 38

WALES — Seth Miller ignited a 13-4 run in the third quarter that allowed Maranacook to pull out a 55-38 late-seaon win over Oak Hill in KVAC boys’ action Tuesday.

Miller tallied six of his 11 total points in that key third frame, while Kyle Boucher led the Black Bears with 19 points.

The winless Raiders were paced by Parker Asselin and Derek Gammage with 12 points apiece.
