Boys’ roundup: Keene, Devils blank Cougars


FARMINGTON — Jeff Keene fired a four-hit shutout and helped himself with an RBI triple during a six-run uprising to lead Lewiston to a 10-0 victory over Mt. Blue in a KVAC baseball game Wednesday.

Keene’s triple followed a Mekae Hyde’s two-run double in the fourth. Ben Wigant also had an RBI double in the inning.

Joe Sullivan also hit a double for the Blue Devils (7-2), while Keene and Corbin Hyde had two hits apiece. Clint Orcutt had a pair of singles for Mt. Blue (2-7).

Jay 8, Madison 5

JAY — Jay took advantage of two errors to break a deadlock in the fourth inning en route to an 8-5 triumph over Madison.

With the game tied 4-4, two Madison errors opened the door for Jay in the fourth. Kyle Storer had a key RBI single in the inning.

Eli Capen struck out five through six innings before Storer pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.

Matt Ferland hit a double and triple for the Tigers (4-4), while Jake Lord added a pair of singles. Steven Cusson and Kyle Costigan both hit home runs for Madison (0-7).

St. Dom’s 11, Georges Valley 0

THOMASTON — Garret Darnell had three hits and drove in three runs and Chris Bryant fired a two-hit shutout to lead St. Dom’s to an 11-0 victory over Georges Valley in a five-inning contest.

One of Darnell’s hits was a triple. Alex Parker chipped in with a single and double and knocked in a pair of runs for the Saints (6-2) and Kurt Johnson added a double. Bryant struck out six and walked one.

Dylan Maloney had a double for Georges Valley (3-4).

Brewer 3, Oxford Hills 1

SOUTH PARIS — Brewer scored all of its runs on an error and two balks to hand Oxford Hills its first loss of the season, 3-1, in KVAC baseball.

Eric White had four hits, including two doubles and a triple, and scored two runs for the Witches. Kyle McLain made the runs stand up despite occasional wildness (three walks) by scattering three hits and striking out seven. Tyler Desjardins pitched the seventh inning to pick up the save for the Witches (6-2).

D.J. Croy didn’t allow any earned runs and gave up just six hits, but hurt his own cause with the balks. Andrew Kenniston had a double for the Vikings (7-1).

Telstar 10, Carrabec 0

SALEM — Pitcher Ben Field struck out 14 and walked no one to lead Telstar to a 10-0 shutout victory over Carrabec.

The Rebels (4-3) slugged a pair of doubles and a triple in a 13-hit outing. Dan Whitney produced a single and double, while Devin Vail and Kyle Peterson pounded out a double and a single each.

Brandon James broke up the no-hiter in the seventh inning with a single for the Cobras (1-7). Brandon Lehay notched the other Carrabec hit in the losing effort.

Lisbon 6, Hall-Dale 3

FARMINGDALE — The Lisbon baseball squad erupted for three runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning as Lisbon pulled away to a 6-3 victory over Hall-Dale.

Alex Hall belted a double for the Greyhounds (7-1) in the seventh and advanced to third on an errant relay throw. After an intentional walk, Andy Tupper smacked an RBI double to drive Hall across the plate. With a man on second and third, Chris Whitney belted an RBI single to drive in two and finish the scoring for the inning.

Hall finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Tupper also drove in two runs. Frank Angelico went the distance for Lisbon, striking out 10 and giving up just three hits to record the win.

Mt. Abram 3, Mountain Valley 1

SALEM — Parker Kennedy smacked a two-run singled in the fifth inning and winning pitcher Tim Smith struck out nine batters, steering Mt. Abram (5-2) to a 3-1 victory over Mountain Valley (4-3) in an MVC baseball game.

The game remained scoreless through three innings before the Roadrunners’ Jay Chenard belted a one-run double in the fourth inning.

Winthrop 11, Monmouth 4

MONMOUTH — Tylor Reeve scattered seven hits and drew ample run support as Winthrop hustled to a 11-4 rout over Monmouth.

Easton Morang led the Ramblers (3-3) with two hits and three RBIs, while Tyler Guerrette contributed with two hits and two RBIs.

Roger Bachelder led the winless Mustangs (0-7) with a pair of hits. Bachelder also was tagged with the loss after pitching on two occasions. Winthrop jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in the first frame and pulled steadily away.

Gray-NG 8, Greely 4

CUMBERLAND — Taylor Valente smashed a towering three-run home run in the first inning to set the tone, as Gray-New Gloucester pulled away to an 8-4 victory over Greely.

The Patriots added three more runs in the third frame when Heath Martel belted a triple to right field that plated Valente and Chris Norton. Ryan Cavallaro also contributed for Gray-New Gloucester with three hits and two runs scored. Pat Robinson worked six strong innings to earn the win.

Ben Russell led Greely with two hits in the contest.

The Roadrunners made it 3-0 on Kennedy’s two-run single, but the Rangers spoiled the shutout when catcher Gino Salgado smashed a solo home run in the sixth inning.


Hebron 11, Hyde 3

HEBRON — Cory Obrien registered a hat trick to lead Hebron to a 11-3 rout over Hyde in a prep school boys’ lacrosse matchup Wednesday.

Lonnie Taylor, Eric Banash and Levi Lincoln chipped in with two goals each, while single tallies by Chris Gascy and Jordan Wade completed the scoring. Kyle Cordaro made 14 saves for Hebron to notch the win.

Hyde was paced by Kurt Crossman with two goals, while Conner Harbert also scored. Mike Warchol turned aside 29 shots between the posts for Hyde.
