Boys’ roundup: Leavitt shakes off Lincoln


LINCOLN — Zac Goulette and Andrew Middleton nailed key free throws in the final minute of play to lift Leavitt to a 53-49 win over Lincoln Academy in a KVAC boys’ matchup Tuesday.

Goulette led the Hornets with 21 points, including a pair of shots from beyond the arc. Isaiah Calder chipped in with 16 points, while Middleton finished with six.

Lincoln (3-11) was paced by Devin Scherer with 13 points, while AJ Oliver chipped in with 11.

Pine Tree Academy 55, Rangeley 27

FREEPORT — After casually building a slim five-point advantage in the first half, Pine Tree Academy erupted for 22 points in the third frame and pulled away to a 55-27 win over Rangeley.

Chris Wilday led Pine Tree (5-10) with 13 points, while JP Isiahala chipped in with nine. Caleb Carter also contributed with a pair of fine 3-pointers.

The Lakers (2-10) were paced by Michael Hayley with 11 points, while AJ Elmes added eight.

Bangor 69, Mt. Blue 18

FARMINGTON — Bangor jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first frame and used a 24-7 second-quarter run to pull away from Mt. Blue to post a 69-18 win in KVAC boys’ action Tuesday.

Connor Adams led Bangor with 16 points, while Alex Campbell and Matt Cosgrove each added nine.

The Cougars were led by Devon Hoyt with seven points, while Charlie Martin tallied six and Nate Backus added five.

Lewiston 60, Cony 46

AUGUSTA — Adam Poliquins’ five key points down the stretch stalled a staunch comeback by Cony and helped give Lewiston a 60-46 victory over Cony in a boys’ basketball game Tuesday evening.

Trailing 35-14 at half, Cony stormed back with a 19-8 third quarter and narrowed the lead to only four points with about 5 minutes left. Poliquin got hot and stemmed the tide to pull the 10-5 Blue Devils to a 14-point win over the 4-11 Rams.

Edward Little 58, Erskine 42

AUBURN — Edward Little (14-1) doubled an eight-point halftime lead of 27-19, to walk off with a 58-42 victory over hard-playing Erskine Academy in a boys’ basketball game Tuesday night.

Sean Ford scored 18 points and teammate Quin Leary netted 17 for EL, while Erskine’s Caleb McGuire had 14 in a valiant effort.

Oxford Hills 61, Brunswick 39

PARIS — Freshman Andrew Fleming dropped in the game-high 14 points and Jake Plummer scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Oxford Hills (7-8) rolled to a 61-39 victory over Brunswick (8-7) in a boys’ basketball game Tuesday.

The Vikings took a 30-18 lead at the half and their defense held the Dragons to single-digit scoring for three quarters.

Luke Davidson scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Oxford Hills. For Brunswick, Derek Devereaux scored 12 points and knocked down two 3-pointers.
