AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens met on July 18 at Hasty Community Center. President Patricia Records conducted the meeting. July birthdays were recognized. Attendance winners were Phil Cyr and Bea Everett; pot of gold, Marge Stewart, Midge Demers and Ellie Jewell.
A moment of silence was observed for Bill Redmun, who was a long-time member and past president of the club. After the meeting, a chicken barbecue was held and bingo played. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Hasty Memorial.
LEWISTON – Members of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary will hear a presentation by Joseph S. Wood, interim president of the University of Southern Maine, at noon Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Ramada Inn. He will give “A User’s Guide to the University of Southern Maine.”
Wood became interim president of USM in July, after serving as professor of geography and provost since 2000, and before that as vice provost for academic affairs at George Mason University from 1997 to 2000. He is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.

Make a wreath
NEW GLOUCESTER – Participants will learn how to make an heirloom herb wreath at a workshop at Shaker Village from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8. Participants will gather herbs from the Shaker gardens and make ornaments as well. The fee will be $30 and preregistration is required. AUBURN – Vacation Bible School, “Camp Turned Around,” will be sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship at the Marston’s Corner Baptist Church, 752 Beech Hill Road. It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 6 to 10, for ages 4 1/2 to 12.
There will be Bible stories, crafts, games and snacks.

GRAY – The annual Gray Fire-Rescue chicken barbecue fundraiser will start at noon Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Gray Public Safety building, 125 Shaker Road.
The dinners will include coleslaw, chips, rolls and a half-chicken.
The Pennell alumni will sell pies for dessert.
Enough chickens have been ordered for 350 dinners, which usually sell out in a couple of hours.
