DIXFIELD – Dr. James L. Marcum, Cardiology Chattanooga Heart Institute, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the Dirigo High School library, 145 Weld St.
Marcum has authored a book titled “Matter of the Heart, a Laymen’s Guide to the Understanding and Prevention of Heart Disease.”
At the end of the presentation he will have a question-and-answer period.
BETHEL – A meatloaf supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Alder River Grange. The menu will include meat loaf, potatoes, veggies, salads and pies. WOODSTOCK – A public chicken barbecue will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Jefferson Lodge, Route 26, sponsored by Tri-Town Rescue and Jefferson Lodge. The menu will include chicken, salads, homemade rolls, coffee, punch and strawberry shortcake. Cost is adults, $7; under 12, $3. Take-outs will be available. HANOVER – The Gardner Roberts Memorial Library dedication and Hanover Day will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28.
A dedication service in memory of Jane K. Taylor, whose family provided the funding to complete the library moving project, will begin the events. Brandon Moore and his band will entertain from 3 to 7 p.m. Throughout the day hot dogs, chips and soft drinks will be available to purchase.
Tickets for a silent auction consisting of donated items will be available as will lifetime memberships to Gardner Roberts Memorial Library for a $10 fee. The event will take place rain or shine.
Anyone wishing to donate items for the silent auction may contact Donna Worcester at 364-7895 or drop them off at the Hanover Town Office.
MEXICO – A certified nursing assistant course will be offered combining 150 hours of theory and practical experience in health care settings. A reading test, physical exam and interview are required.
Instructor will be Martha Watson, RN, BSN, for the classes to be held at the Region 9 Learning Center. Start date will be announced.

The Region 9 Learning Center summer session is under way until Aug. 15. Classes are being held from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays.
RUMFORD – Rumford Duplicate Bridge Club winners of the July 19 game were: first, Marilyn and Eric Sahlberg; tied for second, Theresa and Bob Soucy with Michell and Fred Fosnasht; fourth, Clara Roy and Paula Humbert.
