BETHEL – Several former presidents of the Bethel Historical Society and at least one charter member are expected to be present for the 40th anniversary celebration at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11, in the meeting room of the Dr. Moses Mason House.
The former presidents and charter member will provide their insights into the society’s journey from its first meeting in the Bethel Library on May 31, 1966, to its present status as one of the largest in the state.
Anyone interested in learning more about the society and its history is invited to attend. Refreshments and an anniversary birthday cake will follow a panel discussion.
FRYEBURG – The 13th annual Take a Chance Silent Auction for Saco Valley 4-H Beef, Dairy and Sheep Club will be held Saturday, May 13, at the Forestry Building at Fryeburg Fairgrounds. Viewing bidding will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and drawing will be at 7. There will be gift certificates, items to carry and dollar items. A 50/50 raffle will be held to benefit Mike Fougere, who was in a serious truck accident.
SUMNER – Help is needed at the Curtis Rec Ball Field on Barrows Road on Saturday, May 13.
Coach Arlene Bedard and the Sumner softball teams will meet at noon for raking, repairing and painting the ball field. Those attending should bring rakes and gloves. The season starts in June.
Women to meet
SOUTH PARIS – The Christian Women United will meet at the First Congregational Church on Tuesday, May 16. Luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. The speaker will be Diane Muise of Auburn, who will also provide music. NORWAY – Progress Center will hold its 15th annual sale of annuals, perennials and hanging plants from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 18, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, May 19, at 35 Cottage St. The proceeds will supplement the activity fund, which pays for special outings and activities for the people that attend the programs. NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge met May 5 at the Fare Share Commons, 443 Main St. Winners for the session were: first, Richard Balian and Mimi Bell; tied for second and third, Bill Bowman and Woody Mercier.
