MEXICO – The Youth Resource Team will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at the Teen Scene at Mexico Recreation Center.
RUMFORD – Pennacook Art Center will open for the season with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the gallery located at 82 Congress St.
Pennacook Art Center is now a nonprofit community gallery and artist’s cooperative featuring the artists of Western Maine. The artwork includes drawing and painting, hand weaving, photography, print making, quilting, sculpture and stained glass.
All first-Friday receptions are free and open to the public. Community memberships are available for $25 a year, $10 for students, $50 for a family or $100, $250 and $500 at the donors or patrons level.

Quilters to meet
RUMFORD – Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 8, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. All area quilters are invited to the monthly gatherings. Those attending the May meeting are invited to bring what they feel is one of their “ugliest” quilting projects for a show and tell.
DIXFIELD – St. Timothy Circle 504, Daughters of Isabella, will have an anniversary banquet starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at Beverly Gallant’s house on Weld Street. A social hour will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. The group will honor past regents prior to the regular meeting. Committee chairwoman will be Cecile Arsenault along with Kim Kilcourse, Millie Harlow and Arita Zitoli.
RUMFORD – A public supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. The menu will consist of homebaked beans, casseroles, salad and homemade pies. Adults are $6 and $2 for children under 12. It is the first public supper for the group since last fall.
LOCKE MILLS – A benefit supper and dance to help with medical expenses for Shirley Lowell will be held Saturday, May 6, at the Locke Mills Legion. The supper will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children under 12. The dance will begin at 8 p.m. and admission is $10 a person. RUMFORD – The Rumford American Legion and Auxiliary will meet Sunday, May 7, at the post home on Congress Street. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m., with meetings to follow.
The women will have installations after dinner. Those attending are asked to wear their blue uniforms. A combined meeting with the new officers of the American Legion will also be held.
Members of the Auxiliary are asked to attend the meeting and bring items for the food pantry.
RUMFORD – Volunteers are needed to staff the Teen Scene from 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays, May 12 and 26. Those able to help should call 364-7408 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
RUMFORD – The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay For Life will take place Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20, at the Hosmer Field Complex.
A silent auction will be held until 11 a.m. Saturday. All proceeds will go toward cancer research for the River Valley area.
The Relay For Life committee is looking for items for the auction from area crafters, businesses and individuals. Those who would like to contribute are asked to drop off items at Davis Florist on Congress Street before May 19.
