MECHANIC FALLS — Scott Penney, head of the Mechanic Falls Public Works Department, will speak at the Mechanic Falls Historical Society meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 24. Penney will talk about his life and family and remembrances in Mechanic Falls.
He will also bring in some items for display and discussion. Penney is a descendant of John W. Penney, who settled in Mechanic Falls in 1856 and founded the J.W. Penney and Sons company, which specialized in the manufacture of steam engines. Following Penney’s talk, members will elect officers.
The society will also hold a roast beef community supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the First Congo Church. Cost of the supper is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and under.
LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on March 16 were as follows: first, Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell; second, Claire Lyons and Marta Clements; third, Mary Leahey and Paul Sherman; fourth, Carlene and Bill Hewett.
Winners at Schooner Estates on March 17 were: first, Anna Vitiello and Claire Lyons; second, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; third, Les Buzzell and John Hackett; fourth, Larry Fortier and David Wallace.

St. Jude fundraiser
TURNER — Antigoni’s Pizza will host a fundraiser to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Monday, March 22.
The restaurant’s employees are volunteering their time to work, and all profits from food sold between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. will go to St. Jude’s.
This is the second time the restaurant, at 792 Auburn Road (Route 4), has held a fundraiser for St. Jude’s. Last year, employees raised $1,300. For more information, call 225-6500.
LISBON — The Lisbon School Department will hold a parent information night for kindergarten screenings from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, in the Lisbon Community School cafetorium, 33 Mill St.
Registration and screening will take place on Monday to Wednesday, May 10 to 12. An official birth certificate, social security number, current immunization record and documentation of a recent (within one year) physical examination must be presented at registration.
