Mother of the year

SABATTUS — The Jacques Cartier Club will crown the Mother of the Year during an event to be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 1. The festivities are open to the public. A light meal will be served, followed by dancing to the music of Trio.

Each year, the club officers and board of directors pick a mother who is a member of the club for their outstanding work done for the betterment of the club. The member’s name is not disclosed until the evening of the crowning.

Cost is $10. Tickets must be purchased in advance by contacting Simone at 375-6214.

Art show

LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will host an opening reception and art show in participation of the annual YWCA Stand Against Racism event on Friday, April 30.

The theme is “The Beauty of Color,” and the YWCA will be accepting art work up until the day of the event. For those interested in submitting art work, contact Kayt DeMerchant at 795-4050, ext. 104. Entries must be original work and be available for showing until May 31.

The opening reception will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. April 30, at the YWCA, 130 East Ave. Light refreshments will be served.

Board meeting

AUBURN — Community Concepts will hold its board of directors meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in the meeting room at AVCOG, 125 Manley Road. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. For more information, call 739-6564.

Bridge play

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on April 13 were as follows: first, Jan Arey and Linda Leotsakos; second, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; third, Carlene and Bill Hewett; fourth, Lue Bilodeau and Alberta Turner.

Winners at Schooner Estates on April 14 were: first, Alberta Turner and Lue Bilodeau; second, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; third, Tom Dahlberg and David Wallace. The club celebrated Turner’s 90th birthday with balloons, flowers, a gift card and well wishes.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Monday and Tuesday and at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. A partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie at 754-1431 for information about all duplicate bridge games in the area.

Talent show

LISBON — A Lisbon High School ASL Talent Show, featuring ASL students and Magic Morgan and Liliana, deaf magician and deaf Russian dancer, will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the school gymnasium.
