Join Hands Day
OXFORD — A group of volunteers in Oxford is seeking volunteers for a project that will take place on Join Hands Day, Saturday, May 1, a national day of service sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America and other fraternal benefit societies.
The project will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Oxford Community Center. Volunteers will plant flowers and sweep the parking lot.
Join Hands Day is designed to bring youth and adults together to plan and implement volunteer service projects in their communities. For more information or to volunteer with the local project, contact Deborah J. Wagemann, project coordinator, at 783-8804 or visit www.modern-woodmen.org.
SOUTH PARIS — An “old time” bean supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at Paris Hill, the church on the top of the hill.
The supper will include home-baked beans, brown bread, casseroles, hot dogs, salads, rolls, biscuits and desserts. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the Church General Fund and 10 percent will go to the Community Food Pantry.
WATERFORD — The Socrates Cafe will gather from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the Waterford Library.
The group offers a forum to discuss current topics and ideas in a friendly atmosphere, where divergent views are welcome. The theme for the May meeting is “Developing A Secure Food Supply,” facilitated by Connie Allen.
