Historical society

OXFORD — The Oxford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the Kay House Museum, Pleasant Street. Following the business meeting, the program will be on Arbor Day. The speaker will be Fred Huntress from Poland.

The public is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served following the meeting.

Stephens High

RUMFORD — Members of the Stephens High School Class of 1949 will meet for a luncheon at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at Sam’s in the Virginia section of Rumford.

Choir performance

STRONG — The Teen Challenge Choir will be at Living Waters Assembly of God at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 2. The choir members come from a variety of backgrounds, ages and upbringings.

Their program of music and personal testimonies aim to bring hope to all who hear them. Everyone is welcome. There will be a luncheon after the service. For more information, call 684-3743.

Book sale

FARMINGTON — The Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset counties will hold its annual used book sale at the Elks Lodge in West Farmington. The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 1, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 2.

Prices are $2 for hard covers or six for $10; paperbacks are 25 cents or five for $1. On Sunday, everything will be $2 a bag. For more information, call 778-3460.

Plant sale

NORWAY — A plant sale to benefit Responsible Pet Care will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, May 23, at the Norway Town Hall/Fire Station. Plant donations are needed.

Nordic walking

SOUTH PARIS — The Oxford Hills and Buckfield Adult Education will offer two Nordic Walking sessions, taught by Marcia Campbell. Classes will start Wednesday, May 5. The first session will be from 10 a.m. to noon and the second session, from 5 to 7 p.m. Both classes will run for three weeks.

Walkers will use a pair of walking poles to encourage walking in a rhythmic forward step. Cost is $15 or $5 each session. Classes are limited to 10 students. There will be instruction on safety prior to class start of each session. Walkers will have free use of poles.
