FARMINGTON — The Sandy River Farmers Market will open Friday, April 30, on Front Street. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays and from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, through October.
The Saturday farmers market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon beginning Saturday, May 1, moving from the Grange to the courthouse parking lot, Main Street. This will also be the Saturday pick-up location for items purchased through the online market, www.westernmainemarket.com. Pick-up or delivery is also available from 4 to 5 p.m. Fridays, at the Western Mountains Alliance office, Church Street.
WILTON — The Western Maine Blacksmith’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Wilton Historical Society. There will be discussion on upcoming events and new projects. Election of new officers will be held. The May “open forge nights” will be discussed. Visitors welcome.

TEMPLE — Koviashuvik Local Living School will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1.
The school teaches practical and inexpensive ways for people to live with and sustainably use their local land. Tours will start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and include a stone root cellar, earth-bermed greenhouse, rainwater collection systems, log cabin, solar and wood stove hot water systems, alternative cooking technologies, vegetable gardens and fruit and nut plantings.
Throughout the day there will be ongoing demonstrations of brown ash pounding, the first step in preparing material for packbaskets.
