AUBURN — The Auburn Rec Dept. and the Auburn Exchange Club will hold youth fishing derbies at Pettengill Park Pond on two consecutive weekends. The pond will be stocked with more than 300 brook trout ranging in size from 8 to 14 inches.
The derby for youths ages 9-15 will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7. The derby for youths ages 3-8 will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14. The cost is $5 per person, payable the day of the event. Rain or shine.

LEWISTON — Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the home of Lois Gilbert on Genest Street. ORONO — The 2011 Citizen Science Symposium will be held at the University of Maine on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13. The primary objective of the symposium is to share information about environmental citizen science, where volunteers assist scientists in monitoring and data collection.
The two day event will conclude with three field trips, including a vernal pool community-monitoring demonstration at the University Forests and a GET WET! (Groundwater Education Through Water Evaluation and Testing) presentation.
