Basic Life Support course

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11. Deadline for registration is Feb. 4.

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the skills to keep people alive until they can be brought to a hospital or be treated with more advanced lifesaving measures. This course covers adult and pediatric CPR, use of the bag-valve mask, airway obstruction, automated external defibrillation, with child AED update, stroke and cardiac arrest and other special resuscitation situations.

This single-afternoon course is open to the public and is intended for physicians, nurses, paramedics, first responders, medical technicians, aids or assistants and anyone whose work brings them into contact with members of the public such as school, hotel, fitness center and restaurant employees. Space is limited. The cost of the class is $79 and includes materials.

Chakra workshop set


LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free chakra workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Chakras: Your Life Energy” will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Chakras are major energetic centers in the body that run along the spine. When our chakras are functioning properly we feel well, energized and balanced. Wellness educator Marcy Covey will discuss the influence of chakras on our physical and emotional health. Discover if your chakras are open or closed and what you can do to strengthen and balance your chakras.

Veggies By Day at Legion event

SABATTUS — The American Legion Riders from Post 135 in Sabattus will present Veggies By Day from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 16.
