Bethel Senior Citizens meeting

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the West Bethel Grange Hall.

The menu will be a corned beef dinner. Cost is $10.

Aging Well Living Well Expo is Friday

BETHEL — The seventh annual Aging Well Living Well Expo presented by the nonprofit SeniorsPlus will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Grand Summit Hotel and Conference Center at Sunday River.

The expo features a keynote address by Rep. Mark Eves, Maine Speaker of the House, a silent auction, workshops and other programs.

Benefit for Linda Bulger Gatskill

RUMFORD — A benefit for Linda Bulger Gatskill will be held Friday, Oct. 3, at the Rumford Eagles Hall.

A spaghetti supper will take place from 5-7, with music by Noel Palmer and Fawn from 7-10 p.m. There will also be raffles and 50/50.

Mystic Valley Grange rummage sale

DIXFIELD — Mystic Valley Grange No. 313 will hold a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at 932 U.S. Route 2 West and Route 17 in East Dixfield.

There will be a take-out baked bean supper with brown bread, rolls, cole slaw and other baked goods.

October Festival at Dixfield church

RUMFORD — The annual “October Festival” will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Dixfield Congregational Church on High Street.

The cost of $6.50 will include a choice of pumpkin waffles or regular waffles, or pancakes served with sausage or bacon, and orange juice, and coffee or tea. Also available will be mums, pumpkins, used books and puzzles, jams, beans, pies, cakes, rolls and raffles.

A special queen-sized quilt that was made by the ladies of the church will be raffled off at 11:30. Tickets are on sale for $2 each or three for $5.

Naturalist to lead hike up Step Falls

NEWRY — On Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m., the Mahoosuc Land Trust is having a hike up Step Falls with naturalist Dr. Roger Zimmerman to explore the natural landscape.

Meet at the trailhead in the parking area, 8 miles north of the Route 2 and Route 26 intersection in Newry. The hike is approximately one mile and will focus on “what’s there” and “how did it get there”? Participants should wear sturdy footwear and bring appropriate weather gear, water and snack.

Carpooling is encouraged to avoid roadside parking. Do not park on private property.

Ice cream social, entertainment

RUMFORD — Rumford Seniors of Peru will have an ice cream social on Monday, Oct.6. Entertainers will be Jay and Tammy Roy.

Dixfield Historical Society annual meeting

DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Historical Society will hold its Annual Meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Museum House, 59 Main St.

Election of officers will open the business meeting, followed by a short program with Art Chamberlain demonstrating his wood carving skills.

Chamberlain is also a teacher at Dirigo High School and is included in the Region 9 enrichment program this fall.

The winner of the society’s Open Market Day gift basket was Cindy Archibald of Dixfield.

DownTown Dash 5K is back

RUMFORD — The third annual Pumpkin Fest is on Saturday, Oct. 11, and will be kicked off with the River Valley Chamber of Commerce’s second annual DownTown Dash.

Registration is $20 this year and includes a tech tee for the first 50 registered.

The start/finish line is at the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition office at 94 River St.

New caregiver support group

WEST PARIS — SeniorsPlus, the Area Agency on Aging, is forming a new Alzheimer’s or dementia caregiver support group in the meeting room at the West Paris Town Office on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The group will give caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s or other dementias a chance to learn from each other and gain support from meeting with other caregivers.

The support group will be held regularly on the second Tuesday of the month. It is free and open to the public.
