Dog training classes to be held

LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will be again offer training classes for puppies and beginners by Marty Neely, certified dog trainer.

The six-week session will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 5 to Dec. 10. The cost is $100 for six one-hour sessions.

College planning workshops

LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host free workshops, “Essentials of College Planning,” for adults 19 and over at the Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way, at 10 a.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 5 and 19. Fourth in med school programs

LEWISTON —  “The Big Picture: Where Do You Fit In” is the topic of the fourth in a series of six Mini-Medical School presentations being offered this fall by Central Maine Medical Center.

The program will feature family physician Edmund Claxton, MD, who will discuss how someone can become a more active and more effective participant in his or her own healthcare. His presentation will feature several national and regional health promotion campaigns.

The program will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3 at the Maine College of Health Professions, 70 Middle St. Interpreter services are available upon advance request.

Names being accepted for gift-giving

BOWDOIN — The Bowdoin Community Giving Tree Project is now accepting names for holiday gift-giving needs.

The annual program was created to assist families by providing gifts for children of Bowdoin for Christmas.

All information submitted is confidential. All names must be received by Friday, Nov. 7.

To have a child’s names included on this year’s list, to report a family in need of assistance or to make a donation, call Karen Mayo at 751-0538.

Turkey supper at VFW hall

AUBURN — A turkey supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the VFW, 588 Minot Ave. Cost will be $7 for adults and $3 for kids under 12. Proceeds support local veterans and their families.
