Sons of Italy to meet

RUMFORD — The Sons of Italy will hold its regular meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at the hall on Route 108.

A light lunch will be served following the meeting. Attendees are asked to bring a perennial for the landscaping project.

Gymnastics sign-ups at Greater Rumford Community Center

RUMFORD — Gymnastics sign-ups and information packets will be available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, at the Greater Rumford Community Center, 5 Congress St. Also on that date, from 5 to 7 p.m., soccer information will be available, including a chance to meet the coach. Adventure camp information and an opportunity to meet the supervisor will also be from 5 to 7 p.m. that day.

The public is invited to the Community Center to see what other activities and sports are available, to join the fitness center, or to see what the facility offers for all ages, including senior citizens. There is basketball, soccer, baseball, floor hockey, sauna, racquetball, Zumba dance, adult boot camp, fitness center, martial arts, jujitsu, adventure, lil kids gymnastics, recreational and competition gymnastics, dodge ball fundraising programs — even a hula hoop exercise program.

Grange to hold ‘souper’

CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Grange will hold a public “souper” supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28.

Homemade soups, chowders and desserts will be available. The cost for adults is $5, or $2.50 for children.

Dirigo to host car show, yard sale

DIXFIELD — The Dirigo High School Class of 2016 will host a car show and yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at Harlow Park.

All proceeds will benefit Project Graduation 2016. The event will be held rain or shine and feature trophies for first, second and third place winners as well as a “Best in Show — Student” category. Concessions will be available as well as a 50/50 raffle.

The fee to enter the car show is $5 per car, including one driver and one passenger. Admission to the event is $3 for adults and $1 for children younger than 12.

Bennett to discuss trip to orphanage

BETHEL — A potluck supper will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, at West Parish Congregational Church, 32 Church St.

The supper is a kick off for the Bethel Area CROP Walk (Churches Respond to Overcome Poverty) that will be held at noon Sunday, Sept. 27.

Amanda Morin will talk about Edible Bethel.

The Rev. Dick Bennett will talk about the recent trip to the Kakamega Orphanage in Kenya.

In September, walkers walk about three miles around Bethel Village and raise funds for local and worldwide hunger and poverty relief.

Seventy-five percent of funds raised support the efforts of Church World Service. Twenty-five percent stays locally and is earmarked to the Bethel Food Pantry.
