Lewiston Republican Committee to meet
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Republican City Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Chamber of Commerce building, 415 Lisbon St.
All Lewiston Republicans are encouraged to attend.
New Auburn Seniors to meet
AUBURN — The New Auburn Seniors will hold its meeting Monday, Aug. 31.
The group will not meet Monday, Sept. 7, the Labor Day holiday.
Lewiston Bridge Club winners
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners of the special North American Pairs game at the Lewiston Armory on Aug. 17 were: North/South — first, Jan and Vern Arey; second, Mike Newsom and Misha Tomic; third, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird. East/West — first, Susan and Andre L’Heureux; second, Nancy Farmer and Luke Merry; third, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier.
Winners on Aug. 18 were: North/South — first, Les Buzzell and Misha Tomic; second, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; third, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier. East/West — first, Rosemarie Goodwin and George Dumas; second, Cynthia Clifford and David Lock; third, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe.
Games are played at 9 a.m., Mondays and Tuesdays, in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. A partner is always guaranteed and all bridge players are welcome.
Community Spay-Neuter Clinic moving
TOPSHAM — The Community Spay-Neuter Clinic will be moving from Freeport to a new location, 321 Lewiston Road in Topsham, on Thursday, Sept. 3. Clinic staff will be joined by some 20 IDEXX volunteers who are donating their yearly community service hours.
The Community Spay-Neuter Clinic is part of the Humane Alliance and ASPCA’s National Spay-Neuter Response Team, and has conducted more than 18,000 sterilizations of dogs and cats since opening just five years ago. It serves low-income families that cannot otherwise afford the service and has a mission to reduce pet homelessness and euthanasia.
Lifetree to discuss abuse
LEWISTON — Lifetree Cafe, 1919 Lisbon Road, will host a discussion on how to break the cycle of abuse at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.
The program, “Blowing the Whistle on Abuse: One Courageous Teenage Girl Tells Her Story,” includes a film of a young woman who was abused by her father for 11 years.
Participants will also get a glimpse of the cost of her going public with the abuse she experienced as well as the freedom that came when the abuse ended.
Admission to the event is free. Snacks and beverages are available.
Film, discussion at LPL
LEWISTON — There will be a showing of the film “Koran by Heart” at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library. A facilitated discussion will follow the film. Free.
