Genealogical Society chapter to meet

DIXFIELD — The Sandy River Valley Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9at the Dixfield Historical Society. This date is a week late in the month due to Labor Day weekend.

The DHS houses a tool museum and a photograph collection that covers the town’s growth and change. The Society also maintains an extensive collection of daguerreotypes, glass plates, family photo albums, town records, maps and deeds.

The Sandy River Valley Chapter collects, exchanges, preserves and publishes genealogical records, related documents and information. The group maintains an extensive genealogical collection. Meetings are open to the public and regularly take place on the first Saturday of each month at the Farmington Public Library.

Legion hosting poker tournament

LOCKE MILLS — Jackson-Silver Post 68, American Legion, will host a Texas Holdem poker tournament Saturday, Sept. 9, at 595 Gore Road.

The doors will open at 11 a.m., and games wil begin at 1 p.m. Meals and beverages will be available.

Auxiliary seeks crafters for fair

PARIS — The Foster-Carroll Unit 72, American Legion Auxiliary, is seeking crafters for its annual craft fair that will be held from 9 a.m. to p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

The cost for an 8-foot table is $15.

There will be a variety of crafts, jewelry, and baked goods. The kitchen counter will be open throughout the day.

Sewing, craft group to meet 

OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Sewing and Craft Group meets from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays except the third Wednesday of each month at the Otisfield Community Hall on Route 121.

Members are a small group of women who bring their own projects to work on, although occasionally there are group projects.
