Bruins tip Pirates, 6-2


PORTLAND (AP) – Petr Kalus and Ben Walter scored two goals apiece as the Providence Bruins beat the Portland Pirates 6-2 Friday in the American Hockey League.

The Pirates (20-18-1-5) have lost their last five games, while the Bruins (24-18-1-3) have won three straight and have posted 17 of 18 possible points in their last nine games.

The Bruins built a 3-0 lead midway through the second period after Kalus scored twice in the first and Pascal Pelletier netted his 12th of the season 12:56 into the second.

Geoff Peters narrowed the Pirates deficit to 3-1 at 16:09 of the second.

After Mark Stuart scored for the Bruins and Matt Keith answered for the Pirates in the first half of the third period, Walter iced the game with goals at 14:54 and 15:23.
