Camp and Carve Weekend offers workshops


SUMNER — The East Sumner Congregational Church, 50 Main St., will host the Maine Wood Carvers Association for the annual Camp and Carve Weekend Friday to Sunday, Sept. 11 to 13.

This year’s event will have a free wood carving workshop for the public from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. It’ll teach the basics for wood carving with members of the Maine Wood Carvers Association.

There will be Soap Carving instruction for youngsters 5 years old and older accompanied by parent. A Pop-Cycle Stick Knife, sharp enough to carve soap, will be provided along with a bar of soap.

Teenagers and adults will learn the basic cuts and methods of wood carving. Tools will be provided (knife, Kevlar glove and a wood blank).

The workshop are free, and registration is not required.

The Church will hold a public Beanhole Beans and Hot Dog Supper at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $7 each or $21 for the family.

There will also be a raffle following the meal.
