Cancer center will focus on caregivers

MEXICO — Region 9 Adult Education has announced that the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing will hold a “Compassionate Self-care: Prescription for Caregivers” workshop. The free workshop will take place at Region 9, 377 River Road.

The workshop is for caregivers who have loved ones with cancer. Being a caregiver can feel like a full-time job, and sometimes involves putting aside physical and emotional needs. Attendees will learn how to be compassionate to themselves and explore ways to maintain the practice in daily life.

The presenter will be Emily Ecker, LCSW, an outreach oncology social worker with the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing. Ecker has been with the center since its opening in 2008 and has more than 30 years experience in the human service field.

In order to accommodate different schedules, the workshop will be held on two different days. Participants may attend a workshop from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, or from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 29.
