NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced the October calendar, which includes the addition of weekly Yoga Warriors classes, fabric crafting and beading projects.
An open house will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the center and a free Reiki session clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Norway Town Office on 19 Danforth St. More information may be found at www.crcofwm.org.
All programs are free to anyone impacted by cancer, survivors and caregivers. New visitors are welcome to stop by for information and to join in one or all of the activities.
Drop-in hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday and Friday. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or to look for resources. They have pamphlets and a lending library.
The center is also a place for a cup of coffee or tea, to chat with a volunteer or participate in scheduled activities. Activities such as coloring, knitting or games are available at all times.
Meet volunteers and support group facilitators at the Oct. 19 open house. Visitors will see what is available for activities, resources and comfort items. There will be light refreshments and door prizes.
The free Reiki clinic will be held at the Norway Town Office. Anyone impacted by cancer, survivors and caregivers may receive a free chair Reiki session by calling 207-890-0329 before Friday, Oct. 13. Any times after that date will be open to the public.
A Women’s Cancer Support Group will meet from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. Bring a bag lunch or snack. FMI: Patti-Ann, 207-744-6173.
Yoga Warriors will meet from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25, at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St. The free gentle yoga class will support healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures and guided mediation and relaxation. Banding Together To Restore will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursdays, Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St. The program, led by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored resistance bands. Yoga for Wellness will meet from 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays. Either Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class at the center, which will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing. Check the website for more information.
Chair Yoga will meet from 2 to 3 p.m. Fridays. Sherri will lead the class in chair yoga. No mats are necessary; chairs are provided.
A Guided Meditation Gathering will be held from 1 to 1:45 p.m.Wednesday, Oct. 11. Susan Kane encourages those present to use their imagination and five sense to relax, which in turn helps to lower stress.
Introduction to Reiki will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 13. Charlotte Labelle will demonstrate how Reiki helps to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Introduction to Reflexology will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27. Karen Tibbetts will demonstrate how applying pressure to reflex points may help improve circulation and reduce body stress.
Stampin’ Up will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. Kathy provides materials and instruction to make a variety of cards.
Fabric Crafting with Barbara will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Sew Orchid Design, 316 Main St. Barbara Daigle is teaching a series of nonsewing or beginner sewing crafts for participants to complete.
Beading Project with Cathy will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Lively Accents, 310 Main St.
Coloring for Adults will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursdays. A group meets to color.
