Cane honors war service

An eagle cane was recently delivered to Vietnam veteran Edward J. Ellis of Dixfield for his time served in the Armed Services and past wars. The cane, worked on by members of Streaked Mountain Wood carvers, was presented by Steven Hatch at the American Legion Post 100. The shaft was turned by Luther Perry, lettering and ribbons by Chuck Perry, eagle head painted by Justina Hatch, and eagle head, insignia, assembly and finishing was done by Steven Hatch. The Eagle Cane Project came about through several woodcarvers in Oklahoma to honor war heroes. These canes are made for any veteran of all branches of service. For more information see
