DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your column every day — a lot of nice information. Please find out for me why the Yankees baseball team does not have the names on the back of their uniforms. I watch a lot of baseball, and all the other teams have their names on their uniforms. — No Name, Mexico
ANSWER: Sun Spots can't verify the answer that she found on the Internet, but here it is. From www.funtrivia.com:
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you please help me locate a place to donate used men's suits? I know Dress for Success takes women's career wear, but what about things for local men? I also have some jackets for both sexes. In addition, where can I donate a barely used shower chair? Christmas decorations? Used sheets and towels that I no longer want? Perhaps a listing of local nonprofit organizations that help people or animals would be beneficial to readers cleaning out their homes? Many thanks. — Molly, Greene
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We enjoy reading your column every day. We missed seeing "Neighbor to Neighbor" on PBS, Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We heard from our relatives and friends that it was very interesting. Please let us know when we'll see a rerun. Thank you. — Ida G., Lewiston
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for providing a service to so many people. Plus not everyone has a computer to find out information. I would like to know of dealers in the L-A area who are familiar with a radon reduction system. Also is the Sun Journal going to print the numbers for the Maine State Lottery game of Hot Lotto. Thank you. — No Name, No Town
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone in the Portland or Lewiston area who teaches tole painting, preferably with oils? Also, I have a necklace that is broken that had a small, flat glass bottle about the size of a quarter that contained small chips of sea glass. It was attached to a gold chain. Where can I find such a bottle? Please do not use my name. — No Name, Westbrook
DEAR SUN SPOTS: You have helped me before, so I am turning to you once again. I have several cards that I would like to send to service women or men to let them know how much I appreciate what they are sacrificing to help keep our country safe. I would like to know where I could call or write to obtain some names and addresses. Thanks for your good work. — Mabel Goding, Poland
ANSWER: Apparently there used to be a way you could send cards to "any soldier," but that appears to no longer be the case due to terrorism concerns.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: My family will be flying out of the Portland airport at a very early morning hour soon. Can you find me the names and contact numbers for hotels near PWM that offer shuttle service to and from the airport and allow you to leave your vehicle in their parking lot free if you stay there the night before? Thank you. — No Name, South Paris
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you please find out where I can get a lamp repaired? It is quite new. One day I turned it on, but it did not come on. I changed the bulb, checked for power, but still no luck. I think it may be the cord connection. Thank you. — No Name, No Town
ANSWER: There no longer appears to be a small-appliance repair shop in the L-A area. (If anyone knows of one, please let the column know.) However, you may be able to fix the lamp yourself.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: You are a great locator of information and help. We have many used, books both hard and soft covers, in great condition that we are interested in removing from our house, also a set of encyclopedias with 21 books and 18 years of updates. Is there any place in the area that purchases used books or organizations interested in free books in a variety of styles and topics? Thanks for your great work. Call 784-7748 or 514-4546. — Clem Clements, Lewiston
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I registered my car in October. My tags had run out in June, but I couldn't afford to register it then. So now that I can afford it for October, the Mexico registration bureau said they have to go back to June. So I got gypped out of five months. Is this the law or did someone at the bureau have a bad day that day? Keep up the great work! — G.M.L., Mexico
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Read your column every day. I have a question for you. I see several men and women wearing a yellow or blue or green bracelet on their wrists. My question is what do they represent? — No Name, Auburn
DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Phillips Elementary School is having a craft fair and Chinese auction on Saturday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 1401 Rangeley Road, Phillips. This is a fundraiser to benefit the Phillips eighth grade and their spring trip to Quebec. For more information, call Sharon at 678-2701 ext. 100. — Sharon Dudley, administrative secretary, Mt. Abram High School
DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to P.T. on Oct. 23 looking for a color wheel for her aluminum tree, luck is on her side, as the Vermont Country Store sells a color wheel for $24.95. They also sell a color-changing, tree-topper star for $39.95. In addition, they sell 4- and 6-foot tinsel trees.
The Vermont Country Store sells lots of nostalgic items such as food, clothing, toys, etc. Lots of long-lost brand items make this country store a treasure. They can be reached at 802-362-8460 or at www.vermontcountrystore.com. — D.M., Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I always read your column while having my breakfast. It is very helpful. I'm writing for two things.
First, I have jars of buttons and assorted sizes of knitting needles to give away. Please call 784-0042.
Second, a group of us would like to know what color the Lewiston city buses were in the 1940s and '50s. We all have different colors in mind. Thank you. - Marguerite Thibault, Lewiston
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thanks for helping with this. I would like to know who owned the Libbey Mill in 1972 when the fire occurred. — No Name, No Town
ANSWER: Diane Hesketh, administrative assistant at the Androscoggin Historical Society, was kind enough to research and send the following information about the ownership of the Libby Mill:
DEAR SUN SPOTS: When my husband is home he keeps his cell phone on the charger all the time even when it shows that it is fully charged. He says that it will last longer if he keeps it plugged in beyond the point that it is fully charged. I tell him if its 100 percent charged it won't charge beyond that. Will this continuous charging do anything to the cell phone battery? Am I crazy or is he obsessed? — Anonymous, No Town
DEAR SUN SPOTS AND CITIZENS OF MAINE: I am writing to you to say hello from the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island. I am a seventh-grade student at Goff Junior High School in Pawtucket. For my geography class we are working on a semester-long project in which we are responsible for creating an oral, written and poster project on a particular U.S. state. I chose to do my report on Maine.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Could you please let me know if there are any lawyers or organizations in the area that offer discount bankruptcy filing services for low-income individuals?
DEAR SUN SPOTS: We were wondering if you can get a transplant for a pancreas and if so where? I am interested in more information. Thank you. -- No Name, No Town
ANSWER: According to mayoclinic.com, almost all pancreas transplants are done to treat cases of type 1 diabetes. The side effects of a pancreas transplant can be significant, so pancreas transplants are typically reserved for those who have serious diabetes complications, such as kidney failure, and are not responding to other treatments.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am the daughter of Dr. L.A. Kamm, whom you may have known or whose paintings you may even currently have on the walls of your home. (The paintings were just signed "Kamm'," followed by the year in which they were painted.)
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you please tell me the difference between different kinds of salt: iodized, sea and kosher? On some of the cooking shows on TV they use a lot of kosher salt. Thank you. — No Name, Jay
ANSWER: All salt has the same basic chemical makeup of about 40 percent sodium and 60 percent chloride and came from the sea originally, although there may not be an ocean present where it is currently mined. Salt deposits can be found in the Midwest, which was once covered by water.
