LEWISTON — The following cases were closed recently in 8th District Court:

Donna M. Pagnani, 27, Auburn, assault, violating condition of release on Dec. 14, 2008, first charge dismissed; found guilty on second charge, sentenced to two days.

Marty Paige, 37, Lisbon, possession of marijuana on Jan. 17, by default, fined $350.

Ryan J. Parker, 21, Lewiston, operating snowmobile on tracks on Feb. 23, offense committed, fined $100.

Jason R. Parlin, 32, Livermore, operating while license suspended or revoked on Dec. 3, 2008, found guilty, fined $250.

Duck stamp contest open to students

AUGUSTA — The 16th year of statewide competition for the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest is under way. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service invites students in grades kindergarten to 12 to create designs featuring ducks, swans or geese in their natural habitats.

Designs are judged in four age categories, with awards for first, second and third places and honorable mentions. Entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2010.

Russell scholarship applications available

AUGUSTA — The Maine Education Association has announced the availability of the Clyde Russell Scholarship applications for 2010 awards. The scholarships were established for Maine citizens through a trust created by the late Audrey Lewis, MEA president in 1958, in memory of Clyde Russell, who served as MEA executive director from 1945 to 1966.

Scholarships may be awarded in each of two categories: graduating high school seniors who will attend a Maine community college and graduating high school seniors who will attend a four-year college.

Bethel arts camp moving to Unity

UNITY — The Maine Arts Camp, formerly known as Bethel Camp for the Arts, has announced that it will move its location to the campus of Unity College, beginning in the summer of 2010.

Having been at Gould Academy for five years, the camp has reached the point where it requires a larger campus with additional needs that can be fulfilled by Unity College, an environmental college located on 225 wooded acres of farmland overlooking Unity Pond.

Maine Arts Camp Director Rick Mades said the move was carefully researched.

Theater fund seeking grant proposals

ELLSWORTH — The Maine Theater Fund of the Maine Community Foundation is seeking grant proposals to support professional and community theaters in the production and presentation of live theater in Maine.

Proposals for funding will be accepted from local, regional and statewide community and professional nonprofit theaters for programmatic, capacity building, operating and capital support.

In 2008, the Maine Theater Fund distributed $51,000 in 14 grants ranging in size from $2,500 to $5,000.
