AUBURN - The Northeast Athletics A.S.A. Under-14 and Under-16 Invitational Softball Tournament is scheduled for August 1-2-3 in Auburn.

Lewiston Rec Women

LEWISTON - Capsawn (1) advanced to the finals last week in the Women's Division playoffs in the Lewiston Rec Volleyball League. Capsawn defeated Hunt's Hill (2) in a lengthy match, 25-13, 10-25, 25-21.

In other action, D.C. Electric (3) ousted Right Stuff (5), 25-14, 28-26; Blue Goose (6) eliminated VNG Getty (4), 25-21, 16-25, 25-23; and D.C. Electric advanced to the semifinals by beating Blue Goose, 25-11, 28-26.

Monday night, Hunt's Hill and D.C. Electric were meeting in the semifinal match. The winner was taking on unbeaten Capsawn in the finals.

Finishing second was the duo of Sonny Beaudoin-Blane Akerley. Third was the team of Gerry Vautour-Andy Gagne.

Hunters raise funds

AUGUSTA - Over $50,000 was raised for youth conservation education scholarships in Maine through the 2003 Maine Moose Permit Auction.

Five hunters bid a total of $51,542 in an auction for the privilege to hunt moose in Maine during the 2003 season. Four of the winning bids were unveiled recently, and the fifth was auctioned by the North American Moose Foundation earlier in March.

The auction was created by the Legislature and began in 1995.

LEWISTON -A&M Builders has emerged as champion in the post-season playoffs in the Men's Division of the Lewiston Rec Adult Volleyball League.

A.M. Builders (2) defeated Falcon Shoe (3) in the first round, then followed with an upset victory over Fern Gully (1).

In other action, Fern Gully knocked off D.L.H. Services; DLH eliminated Falcon Shoe; and Fern Gully ousted DLH to reach the finals.

PORTLAND - The Center for Grieving Children is sponsoring the first annual golf tournament, Swing "Fore" The Center, Wednesday, Sept. 10 at the Poland Spring Golf Club.

Foresomes start at $500 and the fee includes a round of golf, gas cart, box lunch and dinner. Registration begins at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start at 12 noon. Dinner, awards ceremony and a silent auction will start at 5 p.m.

RINDGE, N.H. - Two Oxford Hills High School graduates earned weekly honors as members of the Franklin Pierce baseball team, the top-ranked Division II club in New England.

Sophomore catcher Eric Cavers of Otisfield, was named Co-Player of the Week for the Northeast-10 Conference, while Tyler Cummings of South Paris, earned Freshman of the Week honors.

Cavers claimed his second career Player of the Week award.

FARMINGTON - The sixth annual Healthy Beaver 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at 5 p.m. outside Mantor Library on the University of Maine Farmington campus.

Pre-registration is encouraged. Race day registration will begin at 4:15 p.m. Entry forms are available at the UMF Health and Fitness Center, Olympia Sports in Farmington, and UMF's Dearborn Gymnasium.

LEWISTON - The Pips took top honors in the second session of the Monday night MPC Table Tennis League sponsored by STIGA. Team members are Denny Conley, Jim Mynahan, John Schoen, David Mireault, Vincent Lima.

Second place went to Motley Crew, with members John Govostes, Steve Cornish, Don Dube, Linda Bartolec, Bill Spearrin.

Both teams will receive trophies at the May 10 banquet.

The MPC will host the first Spring Maine Open Table Tennis Tournament, April 5. The public is invited.

AUBURN The championship game in the Auburn Rec Women's Slowdown Basketball League is scheduled for Thursday, April 10 at 6:45 p.m. at Hasty Community Center.

That contest matches No. 1 Rec-Ing Crew against No. 3 Those Girls. Rec-Ing Crew was unbeaten entering the playoff finals but dropped a 37-34 decision to Those Girls. That forced the second and deciding title tilt.
