AUBURN - Mt. Blue defeated the Auburn Recreation eighth-grade football team in a battle of unbeatens, 22-8.

Mt. Blue opened the scoring on a 23-yard run by Kindall Bosall. Andrew Pratt scored a rushing touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Dustin Richards. Henry Nguyen scored for Auburn on a 51-yard touchdown run.

Chaput cops championship

LEWISTON - Lynnae Chaput, who was undefeated in the B-2 division, defeated Lorraine Bowen, also unbeaten in the B-1 division, for the women's 'B' championship in the Lewiston Recreation fall tennis league

In the semifinals, Chaput defeated Lisa Lally, 6-2, 7-6 (3) and Bowen defeated Candy Gleason, 6-2, 6-1. Lally aand Gleason will play for third place.

Men's and women's 'A' division will be completed this week.

Donation for ASLL scoreboard

Auburn Firefighters Local 797 and Auburn Police Unions Presented a check to Auburn Suburban Little League Major Division for a new wireless scoreboard for Benson Field. Members of both unions along with ASLL Board members Rick Lashua, Jody Benson and Steve Dubuc were present during the ceremony held on the last day of the season. The new scoreboard will be in use starting with the 2010 season. ASLL would like to thank Craig Bouchard and all members of both unions for their generous donation.

Bain bags ace at Wilson Lake

Two late-season holes-in-one highlighted area golf action last week.

Allyn Bain of Industry carded an ace on No. 7 at Wilson Lake Country Club in Wilton. Bain used a 7-iron to cover 140 yards. Damon Waltz and Katie McLellan witnessed the feat.

Mary Brandes produced a hole-in-one on the 130-yard eighth hole at Belgrade Lakes Golf Club during a WMSGA tournament. Martha White, Pennie Cummings and Kristin Kannegieser were Brandes' playing partners.

Platz wins softball title

Top ranked Platz Associates compiled a 15-2 record to capture both the regular season and playoff titles in the Auburn Recreation Minor League Coed Softball Division. Platz defeated rival team P&G #2 in the championship game by a score of 18-8, to capture the crown. Coach Scott Tiner was the team MVP and batted a combined .800 during the regular season and playoffs. Scott also led Platz with four hits and four RBIs in the championship game. J.J. Varney, Ray Schofield and Toby Tiner, Jr. also had four hits each.

Court-Menendez, Dunn capture national titles

WALTHAM, Mass. - Lewiston's Nicole Court-Menendez and Auburn's Abby Dunn celebrated titles Sunday in theNational 1-Hour Race Walk Championship on the campus of Bentley College.

Court-Menendez, a sophomore at Lewiston High School, won her first junior national title by walking 9,859 meters in one hour, an improvement of 879 meters from last year. In addition to the title in her age bracket, Court-Menendez placed fourth overall.

Dunn was the second-ranking junior and fifth overall at 9,705 meters, a gain of 837 meters from last fall.

LEWISTON - Lisbon Street Getty Mart Sr. Redskins finished the regular season with a convincing 28-7 victory over Sam Francis State Farm Sr. Lions. Jeffrey Clark Jr. was the offensive workhorse, finishing with 240 yards and touchdown runs of 7, 57, 53 and 68 yards. Jason Gonzalez and Ryan Jones each cashed in extra points, and Joey Gonzalez caught a two-point conversion pass from Chad Hinkley.

Men's B Division

Bob Thornton & Frank Proulx from B-1 and Shawn Handler & Chris Bournakis from B-2 advanced to the championship rounds. In the semifinals, Thornton def. Bournakis, 6-2, 6-2, and Handler def. Proulx, 6-4, 6-4. In the finals, Thornton captured the championship by defeating Handler, 6-4, 6-3, making Handler runner-up. In the third-place contest, Proulx def. Bournakis, 7-5, 6-3.
