RUMFORD - Young pro football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the Rumford Parks and Rumford Lodge of Elks No. 862 host an NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Sunday, Sept. 27. The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 8 to 15.

Boucher was a teacher, coach, athletic sirector and avid supporter of St. Dom's. During Boucher's tenure at St. Dom's, he dedicated countless hours contributing in many ways to the athletic department and student athletes. He was appreciated and respected by many during his years of service to the school.
WINSLOW - The Winthrop Red Sox and Central Maine Green Wave went to extra innings for the second time this season before the Sox escaped with a 1-0, 10-inning victory to grab the lead in their best-of-three Pine Tree League senior baseball championship series.
Both teams had chances early, putting runners in scoring position with fewer than two outs three times through the first nine innings. Once again the Wave's Kevin Main and Winthrop's Torey Carr went head-to-head on the mound, with both going the distance.
FARMINGTON - Auburn Recreation Department kicked off the new football season with tough openers against Mt. Blue Youth Football. This is the first season for Auburn Rec in the rugged Sandy Valley Youth Football League.
In the opener, the Auburn Blue Grade 3-4 team lost a tough defensive battle to the Mt. Blue Bobcats, 6-0. Trevor Gordon had the lone touchdown for the Bobcats. Max Bell and Alex Merchant led a fine defensive effort for Auburn Blue.
Two local golfers registered holes-in-one in Auburn over the last week.
Reco Arnoldy aced the par-3, 154-yard 13th hole at Prospect Hill Golf Course during the season-ending scramble for the Marchesseault Heating League.
Jon Furbush knocked his lone shot to the 11th hole at Martindale Country Club into the cup as part of the annual Fall Two-Ball tournament Sunday.

LEWISTON - Twins Variety Senior Giants remained undefeated through two weeks of the FLY football season, defeating Lisbon St. Getty Mart Senior Redskins, 33-12.
Quintarian Brown scored two of his three touchdowns on runs of longer than 50 yards. Ben Howell also scored on an 85-yard reception and returned a kick for a TD. Eli Cady, Zach Abisalih and Logan Lavoie set the tone defensively with key stops for the Giants.
LEWISTON - Lewiston Recreation summer doubls tennis results:
Men's 'A' division: Mike Burke and Andy Marsh were undefeated champs. Ron and Calvin Chicoine were finalists, with their lone loss to Burke and Marsh.
Men's 'B': Mike Lacombe and Roger Grondin also went undefeated to capture the championship, with Ray Tardif and Claude Bergeron sustaining their only defeat against Lacombe and Grondin.
HARRISON - The Western Maine Fish and Game Club will be holding a Hunter Safety Course on September 19 and 20. The class will take place at the fire station. The course will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Registration will be at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

AUBURN - Jeff Roy was 3-for-3 with an RBI and made a key putout at third base to help Outlaws seal an 8-3 victory over Team Argo in an Auburn Players League softball championship contest.
Hunter Erickson made the throw to Roy from left-center field to nab an Argo runner. Keith Wright also chipped in solid defense at the plate, with Reggie Emery making the final catch of the game in right-center.
Dan Erickson was 2-for-2 and Ryan Pleau 2-for-3, each with an RBI for Outlaws.
AUBURN - St. Dominic Regional High School has announced its 2009 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees. The St. Dom's Athletic Hall of Fame honors former players and coaches who have achieved athletic excellence throughout their careers at St. Dom's and in their communities.
A Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Paul Bouchard, class of 1953. The Athletic Hall of Fame inductees are: Normand Bureau (‘51), Aime Morin (‘51), Julie-Ann Robert-Booker (‘94), Katharine Vincent-McKay (‘03), and Coach Larry Charest (‘61-‘67 & ‘74-‘75).
AUBURN - Central Maine Community College is taking applications for its 10th annual Point Guard basketball camp. The boys' session is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The girls' camp is Sunday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The camp is designed to educate and improve the skills of tghe point guard through class instruction and on-court presentation. One of the camp's instructors will be former CMCC All-American point guard Patrick Dempsey.

DIXFIELD - Wendell Blood and Tina Meserve were winners in the seventh-annual Dixfield Bicentennial Road Races.
Blood captured the men's 5-kilometer event in a time of 19 minutes, 43.9 seconds. Meserve was the women's champion in 20:00.4.
Nicholas Young (20:18.8) and Gunner Bradbury (20:26.3) were second and third in the men's competition. Kasey Darnell (25:58.8) was women's runner-up, followed by Meridith Skibitsky (27:03.5).
Three local players registered holes-in-one on golf courses throughout the state in the first week of September.
Jim St. Pierre of Auburn picked up his first career ace on No. 15 at Prospect Hill Golf Course. St. Pierre used a 9-iron on the 115-yard par-3. Nate Corliss witnessed the shot.
Brian Gallagher carded his initial hole-in-one at Houlton Community Golf Club. Gallagher landed his shot with a 5-iron on the eighth hole, covering 177 yards.
