Nov 21, 2009 5:21 am

The Bruins won their second straight game, only the second time this season they've produced a winning streak. This one moved Boston within two points of first-place Buffalo in the Northeast Division.

Gordon wants to keep driving for Hendrick

Nov 21, 2009 4:24 am
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — Jeff Gordon still has Cup title No. 5 in sight. And his boss expects Gordon to stick around a few more years to try and win at least one more.

Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick waved off any idea that Gordon's career was nearing the finish line. Hendrick, who locked up three-time defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson through the 2015 season on Friday, said he expected Gordon to drive at least "three or four" more seasons before retiring.

Hendrick has long said Gordon has a "lifetime" contract with Hendrick Motorsports.

France thinks Johnson's dominance fine for Chase

Nov 21, 2009 4:10 am
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — NASCAR chairman Brian France wants Jimmie Johnson to be commended for his four-year run atop NASCAR, and not used as an example of why the championship format might be flawed.

Johnson heads into Sunday's finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway poised to become the first driver in NASCAR history to win four consecutive titles, all under the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship format implemented in 2004. His dominance has made it easy for Chase critics to blast the system, which France called unfair.

Nov 21, 2009 3:29 am
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — Jimmie Johnson's run for his fourth straight Cup title starts from the pole.

Johnson turned a lap of 173.919 mph on Friday to top qualifying at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a big boost for the Hendrick Motorsports star as he tries to become the first driver in NASCAR history to win four consecutive championships.

"We did an awesome job today, and I feel that the start will go smoothly," Johnson said.

Giants' Lincecum wins second consecutive Cy Young

Nov 20, 2009 3:11 pm
NEW YORK (AP) — Talk about a freak - Tim Lincecum needed just 15 wins to bag another NL Cy Young Award.

Yup, throw out those old baseball cards. Wins and losses don't mean much anymore when it comes time for voters to pick baseball's best pitchers. It's all about WHIP, FIP, BABIP and other lines of alphabet soup.

"It's turned into a game of complete numbers and statistics and what people do with that," Lincecum said.

Clark looking to make his mark again

Nov 20, 2009 2:20 pm
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — When Dallas Clark looks at the evolution of tight ends, he thinks of John Mackey.

The Hall of Famer made it chic for the big guys to catch passes and run down field when it was more popular for them to be blockers or outlet receivers.

Now, four decades later, Clark is carving out his own niche in a very different NFL.

Henry proves it: You can't trust soccer players

Nov 20, 2009 1:54 pm

PARIS (AP) — Soccer players just can't be trusted to be honest and Thierry Henry proved that by choosing to play volleyball against Ireland, blatantly handling the ball for the goal that sent France to the World Cup.

Cheating, plain and simple. More proof, if it was needed, that soccer needs far better on-field policing.

"Something has got to be done," says Graham Barber, a former Premier League and FIFA referee with hands-on experience of dealing with Henry.

Nov 20, 2009 1:03 pm

The title, whomever delivers it, will be Rick Hendrick's ninth in NASCAR, tying him with Petty Enterprises for the most. And it will be his record-setting 12th overall, joining three truck titles.
