Celia G. Campbell


West Paris – Celia G. Campbell, 87, of West Paris died Saturday, Jan. 6, at Ledgview Living Center.

She was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Machiasport, the daughter of Albert and Bertha Wood Gardner. She served in the U.S. Army (Women’s Army Corp.) during World War II as a nurse from Feb. 23, 1944 to Dec. 8, 1945.

She worked at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton, and then at Market Square Health Care Center as an licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the American Legion. She loved reading, teddy bears, cross stitch and the ocean.

She is survived by a son, Walter A. Campbell of Oxford; two daughters, Mary A. Thompson of Bethel and Janet M. Thompson of Lovell; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Iva Gardner Peaco; a grandson, Harold Hibbard; and a great-granddaughter, Lily Bell.
