Celtics’ Allen has surgery on knee

BOSTON (AP) – Boston Celtics guard Tony Allen had successful surgery Saturday to repair torn ligaments in his left knee, the team announced

The surgery was performed at New England Baptist Hospital by Celtics team physician, Dr. Brian McKeon, the club said in a statement.

Allen tore two ligaments in his left knee when he landed awkwardly after an uncontested dunk in the final minutes of a loss to Indiana on Wednesday.

Allen is out indefinitely. He appeared in 33 games this season, averaging 11.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.48 steals in 24.4 minutes per game.

He set or tied career-highs in 12 statistical categories this season.
