LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women, a day drop-in center for women in Lewiston, announces its schedule of programs for March.
The month begins with a celebratory launch party for the new community newspaper called “Bridges.” The paper has been created by Lewiston Unites, out of the response to fires last May. The first edition will be available at the event, which will be catered by The Nutrition Center of Maine.
Other special events in March include holiday themed activities and food for St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th, and a spring focused flower collage activity and a flower give-away on the Equinox, March 20.
On the 18th at 10 a.m. the center will host a guest speaker, Lindsay Laxon. She is the Investor Education Manager from the Maine Office of Securities and she will be speaking about scams including how to notice red flags and what to do if you suspect one.
Several nurturing events continue this month.
Heather Flanders hosts a “Be Healthy, Be Strong” series each Monday at 12:30. This is a time to support each other, share troubles and find creative solutions to issues of self esteem, weight or other concerns.
Wednesday afternoons each week are dedicated to nurturing the “inner spirit” through experiences like mandala making, spiritual conversation or guided meditation.
On Saturday the 15th, in anticipation of the spring equinox, Pat Gardiner will be leading a quiet day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. She will introduce the day and offer some meditation suggestions, but participants can use the day as they wish.
“Full Moon Singing Circle” is set for the Sunday the 16th at 6 p.m. The group uses easy, repetitive songs that everyone can sing. Bring a snack to share if you can.
On the 19th at 10 a.m. Betty Allen will repeat her popular class on homemade household cleaners. Bonnie Rousseau returns on the 21st at 10 a.m. for her monthly program called Fitness Made Easy.
The Writing Workshop continues to meet each Monday morning (except March 3). Bingo will take place on the 25th. The Art Van comes on the 26th. The monthly clothing give-away will be on Thursday morning the 27th and the March birthday party is set for Friday morning the 28th. Sue will re-start a scrapbooking class on the 12th. All these classes begin at 10 a.m.
The monthly Support for family caregivers is available on Tuesdays at 11:30 and a weekly Al-Anon group, the only one in Lewiston, meets on Wednesdays at 5:30. The BLT group for Bisexual, Lesbian and Transgendered women and their friends or family will meet on Thursday the 27th at 3.
The center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursdays. On Fridays the center closes at noon. The center follows the same winter weather closing as Lewiston schools. The full calendar of events is posted at www.wisdomswomen.org.
All women are welcome, programs are offered free of charge and no appointments are needed. Oatmeal breakfasts are available daily and the center has a shower available for use.
The center is continually in need of donations of hygiene items which they give away. Please only full size, unopened, basic items. A particular need at the moment is for tooth paste, conditioner and deodorant.
For questions, information on volunteering or how to donate, contact the Executive Director, Klara Tammany, at 513-3922.
