Chamber Adopt-a-Spot brightens the Twin Cities

LEWISTON – With the spring planting season at hand, organizers of the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce’s Adopt-A-Spot beautification program are ready.

The project, part of the Chamber’s Regional Image committee, is now in its 23rd season.

Local businesses and civic groups have an opportunity to help beautify the Twin Cities by planting public gardens on municipally owned lots in high visibility places. Several member businesses provide discounts on plants, landscape materials and maintenance for the Adopt-a-Spot site. The chamber provides signs to recognize each spot’s sponsor.

While adopters are expected to commit to a spot for only one year, many businesses and groups choose to keep their spot year after year. More than 50 locations were planted last year at parks, traffic islands, welcome areas, boat launches and bridge entrances. It’s not too late for those interested in getting involved in the program.
