RUMFORD — Charles B. Sanborn, 99, of Oxford died Tuesday, March 2 at the Rumford Community Home.
He was born in Portland, Nov. 11, 1910, the son of Simion and Flora Bibber Sanborn. He grew up in Buckfield and as a young boy he shoveled fire hydrants in the winter. He worked at the brush mill in Buckfield, sanding brush handles. Later he worked in the woods cutting trees.
As he always said “there weren’t no chainsaws back then, we used crosscuts, hammers and wedges. Then we used gun powder and a fuse to blow ‘em up.” He enjoyed fishing, watching TV and visiting with his many friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Ernest
