Chester C. Bixby Sr.


AUBURN – Chester C. Bixby Sr., 90, of 550 College St., Lewiston, died Sunday morning, April 23, at the Androscoggin Hospice House on Stetson Road.

He was born in Auburn on Aug. 28, 1915, the son of Chester Carroll and Bernice (Colcord) Bixby. He graduated from Edward Little High School with the Class of 1933.

On June 2, 1939, he married the former Hildred C. Akerley of Auburn. They shared 64 years of marriage.

In his early years, he worked at the Ault Shoe Factory, and then he worked for more than 30 years for G.M. Parker Distributors, as well as other food distributors. He and his son operated C.B. Distributors in the 1970s. Until two years ago, he worked for the Lee Auto Group.

Chester was a member of the Court Street Baptist Church since 1929, where he served as treasurer, usher and Sunday School teacher over the years. Chester loved talking with people and was known as a very hard worker.

He is survived by one son, Chester C. II and his wife, Sandra Bixby, of Auburn; two daughters, Lorna and her husband, Robert Hansen, of Auburn, and Carole and her husband, Robert Daniels, of Hammonton, N.J.; one daughter-in-law, Ann Bixby of Albion; 10 grandchildren, Lauri Bixby, Scott and his wife, April Bixby, Bethany Bixby, David and his wife, Devin Hansen, Richard and his wife, Stephanie Hansen, Neil Hansen, Kristen and her husband, Scott Lippincott; Wayne Daniels, Rebecca and her husband, Nathan Lacasse, and Karen Bixby; six great-grandchildren, Kurtis Bixby, Taylor Bixby, Abigail Lippincott, Casey Lacasse, Riley Lacasse and Andrew Hansen.

He was predeceased by his wife, Hildred Bixby on June 7, 2003; one son, James R. Bixby in 2004; four brothers, Russell, Richard, Stanley and Benjamin Bixby; and one sister, Beatrice Bixby.
