Chili Chowder Challenge raises $1,200 for fuel fund


MONMOUTH — The Community Partners inaugural Chili Chowder Challenge raised more than $1,200 for the Families Helping Families Fuel Assistance Program.

The event featured 33 chilis, chowders and cornbreads from Monmouth residents, businesses, civic organizations and town departments at Helen Melledy Hall on Jan. 25.

The Monmouth’s Fire Department and Auxiliary won the best chili award with their “Firehouse Chili,” while Jason Burgess Builders’ “Smokin’ Corn Chowder” won for best chowder. Rise and Shine Bed & Breakfast had the best cornbread with “Morning Sunshine Cornbread.”
