BATH — The Chocolate Church Arts Center opens its 2017-18 theatrical season with Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!”
Performances are: 7:30 p.m. Sept.15-16, 22-23; 2 p.m. Sept. 17 and 24 on the main stage at 804 Washington St.
Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, “Oklahoma” features the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys. There’s a box social coming up, and Curly (Chase Tomberlin of Brunswick) asks Laurey (Sharon Henderson of Gardiner) if she’ll be his date. Trouble is, Laurey thinks he has waited too long, and, in a fit of pique, accepts an offer from the boorish Jud (Iver McLeod of Bath) instead. Meanwhile, Laurey’s friend Ado Annie (Caitlin Paul of Gardiner) is also torn between two men: a cowboy named Will (Garret Coffey of Bath) and a foreign peddler, Ali Hakim (Rich Ellis of Brunswick).
Director is Thom Watson, music director is Theresa Henderson and choreography is by Ashley Steeves.
Tickets are $12 advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are available by calling the box office 207-442-8455 or at chocolatechurcharts.org.
