Augusta — Christine “Chris” Harlow, 90, died Tuesday, May 25, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta where she had been a patient for the past three weeks. Chris passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
She was born in Chisholm on Jan. 17, 1920, the daughter of Louis and Isabelle (Veilleux) Chicoine. She was educated in the Jay school system. On Nov. 18, 1940, she married Walter “Bud” Harlow of Mexico at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. Bud passed away on July 14, 1975. Together they had four children, Barbara, William “Bill”, Steven and Gary who died shortly after birth.
She lived most of her adult life in Mexico with her husband. She was involved in numerous school activities in Mexico where she shared these experiences with her three surviving children as they attended the Mexico school system. She was employed for several years with the W.T. Grant Co. in Rumford until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Jay/Livermore Falls Senior Citizens and lifetime member of the Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post 3335 Auxiliary of Jay. While a resident at Gray Birch Assisted Living facility in Augusta, she was an avid bingo and card player. She also enjoyed all types of crafts as well as knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Chapman and her husband, Jeffrey, of Farmingdale; her sons, Bill Harlow and his wife, Ann, of Jay and Steven Harlow who resides in San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren, Paula Nelson of Madison, Dean Harlow of Jay, Allison DeSalvo of Ft. Mill, S.C., and Scott Chapman of Charlotte, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Logan and Hannah Emery of Madison and Zachary DeSalvo of Ft. Mill, S.C.; her great-great grandson, Joshua Onkobe of Kan.; four sisters, Doris Wilson, Therese McKenna and Arlene Landry of Jay and Rita Burke of Mexico; two brothers, Clarence Chicoine of Jay and Louis “Roger” Chicoine of Livermore; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Walter, her son, Gary, her parents, and her brother, Armand Chicoine.
