Church will collect donations for food pantry

SOUTH PARIS — Deering Memorial United Methodist Church will join United Methodists worldwide in a “Change the World” event by hosting a food drive to stock the shelves for the Oxford Hills Food Pantry.

The church-wide event encourages members to join with others in the community to make a difference locally and globally.

“Now, perhaps more than ever, individuals and families are in need. Food banks all across the country continue to see more and more people coming to them for help,” said Pastor Dawn-Victoria Mitchell. “We are really excited about this opportunity to give back to the community and help our neighbors. There is a need out there and here is something you and I can do.”

The food pantry is especially in need of diapers and cat food at this time. Basic, every day items such as canned meats (chicken, ham or tuna), peanut butter, canned vegetables and personal care products (soap, shampoo and toothpaste) are always needed as well.

Donations may be brought to Deering Memorial on Sunday, April 25, during the 10 a.m. worship service, when the offerings will be blessed. Additionally, donations will be collected from 1 to 3 p.m. during an ice cream social in the church’s parish hall.
