State to offer insurance help to consumers on Thursday

Maine’s Bureau of Insurance will conduct a consumer outreach session in Lewiston on Thursday to help people with insurance problems or questions.

Superintendent of Insurance Mila Kofman invites the public to join bureau staff from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Lewiston City Hall, 27 Pine St.

The session will include an overview of the bureau’s services and ample time for questions. Staff members will be able to assist individual consumers with their specific questions and cases.

Insurance cases can relate to any type of insurance — health, auto, life, homeowners or renters insurance. Staff will deal with anything and everything related to insurance.

The type of cases consumers can get help with are varied and many, according to the bureau. For example, some people may want help concerned they've been waiting too long for an insurance company to send a check and want assistance to move the process forward. Others may have been denied a claim and want someone to review the matter with the company. Another example is an individual whose premium may have gone up, and they’d like the bureau to investigate to make sure the increase is justified and consistent with Maine law.

Those unable to attend can get help with insurance cases by visiting or calling the bureau’s offices, 1-800-300-5000; or by visiting the agency's website, www.maine.gov/insurance.
